Top 10 Foods that help burn fat

January 24, 2009 by Beth · Leave a Comment

Posted by aaron Nimocks September 8, 2008

There are foods that are natural fat burners for both women and men. Avoid harmful side effects which can come with taking diet pills or other unnatural weight reduction methods by adding these foods into your diet.

1. Apples
An apple a day keeps the FAT away! Apples increase the glucose levels in your blood in a safe and gentle way. You won’t get a sugar rush and you will feel satisfied longer after a snack of apple slices. They are also a rich source of soluble fiber. The pectin in the peel places limitations on the amount of fat absorbed in cells.

2. Grapefruit
Grapefruit is rich in galacturonic acid, which helps burn fat and cholesterol. It also assists fighting atherosclerosis or the hardening of the arteries. Cinnamon rather than sugar will reduce the tart taste. Many foods from the citrus group are fat burning foods.

3. Spinach
Spinach lowers cholesterol, boosts your metabolism, and burns body fat. Spinach is an excellent food for burning fat and improving metabolism rates. It supplies essential nutrients to your body such as iron, beta carotene, and vitamins C & E.

4. Cabbage
Remember the cabbage diet? It was dangerous because it could throw the body into shock, so eat cabbage but don’t make it your whole diet. Cabbage cleanses fat out of the body, especially in the intestines and stomach.

5. Tomatoes
The natural acids and Vitamin C accelerate the body’s metabolism. Try growing your own because the taste and nutrients in homegrown tomatoes are outstanding compared to store bought.

6. Onion and Garlic
Onion breaks up fat and speeds metabolism with it’s natural oils and minerals. Garlic starts a cleansing process which breakdown and wash away fats. One of the best ways to reduce fat deposits and absorb a natural anti-biotic is to use garlic oil. It is available in most health foods stores. It is also very inexpensive.

7. Apples Cider Vinegar

Makes an excellent salad dressing and contains acid which starts the fat burning process.

8. Dark High Fiber Bread
The key is dark, rich, high-fiber breads. Try mixed grain, pumpernickel, oatmeal or whole wheat. The average slice is rich with complex carbohydrates the steadiest fuel you can give your body. It also has a surprising amount of protein.

9. Lettuce
Don’t bother with Iceberg. Try all of the other lettuces out there. You will find a new rainbow of flavors. Lettuces are loaded with minerals which assists in the body’s immunity. They also increase metabolism.

10. Tofu
A health food from Asia, tofu is basically tasteless. It absorbs the flavoring of the food and spices that the tofu is cooked with. Tofu contains calcium, iron, very little sodium and no saturated fats. It increases metabolism and lowers cholesterol. There are different varieties available from firm tofu, great for stir fry, soft tofu is good for chopping and adding to salad.

Thinking about the food that you eat not only in the terms of how much fat you are eating, but whether the food you eat will actually help you burn fat puts the battle of weight loss at a different level. Now we can reduce fat by exercise, eating less fat and eat the foods that will burn fat!
