With the game separated by a single basket and the clock winding down, most players walked down the court at Hill City Elementary, Saturday.
Nothing speedy about this fast break, but then again, the members of one team had been at least 50 pounds overweight when they began Pickens County’s Biggest Loser competition less than a month ago, and the other team consisted of Jasper officials.
Anyone familiar with the Biggest Loser television show, which combines exercise, nutrition tips and plain ole reality show drama, will recognize the local installment, created by Connie Dixon. Dixon, a cancer survivor, who fully understands the need to keep fit, saw the television show one night, got inspired, found partners and launched the hometown version of Biggest Loser this year. A Good Way to Measure Progress and Make Sure You Don’t Skip Your Exercise Sessions

The scale measures water and muscle too. It’s not a great indicator of fat loss. For a better–and more, um, hands-on–progress report, place your fingers on your belly and inhale deeply so that it expands. As you exhale, contract your abdominal muscles and push your fingertips against your hard abdominal wall. Now pinch.
